Salisbury is the northernmost town in Massachusetts and lies directly on the Atlantic Ocean. Originally, the residents of Salisbury carried on successful fisheries businesses. In 1865, the first house was erected on Salisbury Beach and the following year a plank road was built to make the seashore more accessible. House lots were rented and cottages built. There are now many opportunities to own or rent seaside homes and enjoy the picturesque beauty and relaxing coastal lifestyle. 
Popular for it’s five miles of beaches, Salisbury has been a recreational destination for the past century. In the early 1900‘s Salisbury Beach developed into a thriving summer resort area. Hotels, restaurants, amusement parks and arcades flourished until the 1960’s. At one time concerts by major entertainers like Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong were popular here. In recent years there has been a push to bring music and restaurants back to the beach and several new venues have opened..JPG)
Today, the area remains popular with beachgoers and is home to the Salisbury Beach State Reservation, a family campground situated on a spectacular beach just north of the mouth of the Merrimack River. Facilities include parking for 4,000 cars, tent and trailer sites, children’s playground, snack bar and a boat ramp.
